The cover was better than the original thread

I used to work with a lad that was in a Creedance tribute band. They played a gig in Garristown one night and after the gig, someone came up to him and said, ‘It’s brilliant that a band is playing their own songs these days instead of doing covers’

A couple of songs off the top of my head

An obvious one to start, but The Beatles version of the Top Note’s Twist and Shout

Nina Simmone’s cover of Janis Ian’s Stars

Feist’s cover of the Bee Gee’s Inside & Out

He changed quite a bit (including the lyrics), but Nick Cave & The Badseeds’ cover of Stagger Lee still counts I think

Sonic Youth’s cover of The Carpenters’ Superstar (even though it is very close, the original is excellent)

The Temptations’ cover of The Undisputed Truth’s Papa Was a Rolling Stone

No disrespect to Howard Melvin and the Blue Notes but…

Or Gene Pitney (on his Sweeney Todd.)

Now you’ve started me! Here’s one for you Jam fans.

I used to put this on the duke box on a Thursday night when out with ones and the woman (now wife).

Sweet Jesus I’m getting oul
