Adult Hurling League 3 (AHL 3) 2023

Jeez Cuala hurling really is in the middle of a demise. 2nd 3rd and 4th team all have 2 league wins between them all year. With the seconds and thirds getting demoted. Can’t expect to compete with the likes of boden and crokes when bodens third team is in a Highir division then Cuala seconds. Massive blow as there were a lot of young players on that second team.
-
Credit to Maurs. They are a very decent side
-
Absolutely. With the recent population surge in rush would hope the club start to make strides in hurling and football
-
Cuala really did get the most out of those few successful years and fair play to them they achieved things Boden and Crokes can still only dream of. You need serious numbers and lads committed to keep the teams at the levels they got to. Only Crokes and Boden for now are capable. One or two more might get there too.
Unfortunately when the top starts to fall back a bit it has a knock on down through all the teams with lads having to move up.
-
Ye would hope Cuala can get back to the top again as the more competitive teams we have in championship the better. Though they have very little quality coming through. At the end of the day there will be lads from this second team going on to play senior as even more retierments to come this off season so the fact they’ll have to go from playing division 4 next year to edventually senior 1 championship is far from ideal
-
My heart bleeds for them. Hopefully they bounce back
-
Very good side. Surprised they didn’t finish higher in the league this season but hopefully this might be a springboard for them.
-
That was some group of hurlers they had all the way thru and seemed to have peaked few yrs ago.
Cuala are getting stronger in football, think they have 4 adult teams. Their 1st team has had outside managers good few years, Paul Curran and now Austin O’Malley I think.
Is that having much of an effect on the hurlers?
-
At the moment no. Michael Conoroy and eoin o Callaghan were the only 2 players playing senior in both codes this year. But would fear that a lot of the young dual players are now more likely to pick football as they have a better team and more likely to win a championship. Ironically enough a few years ago it was the opposite as a lot of players stopped playing football in order to focus more on hurling. You’d fear that if a player as talented as con won’t play hurling might put down the groundwork’s for more to follow
-
Did Eoin Conroy do all the scoring for maurs does anyone know
-
Cuala were always decent enough at the football and have had a fair few lads representing the senior county side…
-
They are still in AHL1 and Senior 1 championship and nowhere near the relegation battle? When they won their senior championships in the 90s they were hanging around division 2…
-
Between the 94 and the 2015 win Cuala went down to the second tier and could’ve been much worse with no underage structure or juveniles coming through. That team that one them titles in 89,91,94 was mainly there children who backboned the success from 2015 to 2020. I would expect much of the same to happen to Cuala and for them to have a fall off. Like I said previous with the further retierments to come this off-season Cualas aim for the foreseeable future should be to avoid relagation to senior 2.
-
Gaa is strong in Cualas primary schools now so that bodes well for future. They always had lads going to secondary in Colaiste Eoin but never remember the likes of Harold school being a GAA school. They play in Croker this week...which bodes well for GAA in Glasthule/Dalkey.
-
They are in a different place than they were in 89/Early 90s. Their underage teams may not be competing in division 1 but they have good numbers from what I can see which is great. Their challenge will be the growth in other clubs… the likes of Na Fianna, Plunketts, Lucan, Judes, Barrog and others are growing and becoming more competitive at Senior 1 level. But there are very few clubs with >3 teams at ccc1 level.

I can't recall anyone called O'Neill on the 2015-2020 teams 😳

Open to correction here but they maybe the only hurling team to get relegated and win the championship at same time, late 80s or early 90s.
-
They'll fall back a bit no doubt. But they are in no danger at all of going into free fall or anything like that. If they do go down it'll only ever be too senior 2/Div 2 and yo-yo like that.
Things go in cycles they'll be back at the top in 20ish or so years 😂.

Mearnog conceded the playoff?
