I'm hoping it's not that! The Yanks only ever do what suits them. I thought they were more worried about China/Taiwan than Russia/Ukraine but we probably know little of what is going on behind the scenes?

It's almost always deflected to some other cause, issue, culpability. That's the thing. And if you try to point it out you get accused of being anti-US and trying to paint the US as great satans whilst letting China off or whatever. Which entirely misses the point.
