2023 Connacht Senior Football Championship

Will Kerry v Mayo even have that championship cutting edge? The loser is still almost guaranteed to get out of the group anyway. I think the who GAA season is up in a heap. Remember the “split season” was the reason for all this yet the club season is as long as ever. Clubs back training since January and leagues already underway.
There’s a reasonably big advantage to winning your group. You get a week off while the 2nd/3rd teams have to battle it out in the prelims (so 3 games in consecutive weeks for the winners of the prelim), and you avoid all the other group winners in the quarter finals.
Agree, it’s not the end of the world if you lose, but the advantage is enough that I believe all the big teams will be firmly wanting to top the group.

Fancy Mayo for this one.
-
Agreed . It is an advantage winning the group . The same advantage you got winning a provincial final years ago over losing it . You miss a qualified game and get a extra week off
Kerry will be all out to win on Saturday . They will think a home win will win them the group
-
Agree Kerry will be very keen to win this.
-
Also can’t think how Mayo wil be all systems motoring after a 6 week break . They’d want to have had timed good training, challenge matches or in house games to hit the ground running. I guess we’ll find out
-
In fairness Kerry have played Tipp and Clare in the meantime, I'd say the AvB matches in training are tougher, so not sure Kerry have much of an advantage as regards being up to pace
