2023 Connacht Senior Football Championship

Can Galway retain their crown or will Mayo or Roscommon get it back. Those two face each other in one of the quarterfinals. What it also means is one of Sligo, London, Leitrim or New York will be in a provincial final.

Lopsided draw. Mayo v Ros will be a testy fixture with the McStay connection.

Joke really of pandering to provincial councils

But the irony of that tweet though. Ulster can’t have it both ways.

First game of the championship takes place in Ruislip with Sligo making the visit to London. After winning Division 4 the Yeats count has a big opportunity of making a provincial final on the opposite side of the big 3 in Connacht.

Teams

Comfortable enough first half for Sligo up 12-4 at the break. Paddy O’Connor at full forward, Pat Spillane Jr and midfielder Cian Lally all with multiple points from play in the first half. 9 different Sligo scorers in total that opening half. London had a great goal chance according to OceanFM from Conal Gallagher but he was denied by Championship debutant Daniel Lyons.

Goal for Sligo from Sean Carrabine and they are completely out of sight now leading 1-15 to 7.

Smooth sailing for Sligo into the Connacht semifinals as they run out 14 point winners against London. Pat Spillane Jr got the 2nd goal and was unlucky not to get another major himself late on when he rattled the cross bar.

Should Sligo contest the Connacht Final, and I believe they will, it will be interesting to see how many games they win in the Round Robin phase of the All Ireland Series. They will be a #2 seed.

Tourlestrane have won 7 Sligo county championships in a row (9 in last 11 years) and don’t have one player on today’s team panel of 26. That’s unbelievable!!

Am I right in thinking if Mayo lose to the Rossies tomorrow they’ll be a No.3 seed which could make for an interesting group. If you had say the Ulster Runners Up and Munster winners(Kerry)

Correct. I’ve heard there say Mayo would have to play less games and have a possible easier route to a final if Roscommon beat us but I don’t believe you can think like that. Go out to try and win every game.

Heads down and go out to win every game.

New York and Leitrim on awful late.

You’d need to be well locked to watch it.

Wonder if this’ll be the year NY finally do it. With all due respect to them Leitrim are almost always their best chance of doing it

Last time I was over I was well locked at Gaelic Park…didn’t see much of the game at all :see_no_evil:

The problem is not the provincials, the problem is trying to pretend you can have 4 competitive groups of four, there will be more turkey shoots this year than ever before and div3 and 4 teams won’t be the only ones on the end of them, the only thing is in a group where 3 get through the top teams may not bother their arse handing out hidings

6pm over there
NY 11/4 to win it, must be as short as theyve ever been.
