Probably the best sports administrator in the country.
Will leave a big void, all the best in your retirement John.

A serious blow to DCB, thanks for everything, John.

Need to find someone of a serious caliber to come on and fill those shoes, Gilroy would be a great option imo but probably not going to happen.

Big news … I heard he was unhappy with Stevo’s return.

Oh I’m not falling for this anymore, he’ll disappear for a year then boom just like that reappear on the pitch with the teamsheets during the warm up when nobody expects it … . We’ve seen this before you know…

He’s done a phenomenal job and has given some service to Dublin GAA, always a gent to deal with and has left some legacy.

He’s left Dublin GAA in some position and hopefully the new person will continue it on and keep driving it on.

Best of luck to JC with whatever he does next. He’s been transformational for Dublin GAA and has left some seriously big shoes to fill.

Pat Gilroys job if he wants it. Whoever gets it, will be stepping into a much healthier unit than John Costello took on. Best administrator in the GAA bar none.

He leaves huge shoes to fill and did an amazing job for Dublin, especially football. I won’t pretend that he did the same for hurling, as I see it, but I am totally biased in this regard. Hopefully he gets a bit of a break now, but I’d say lads like him can’t sit still for long. He always comes across as a young man but he has put in a huge stint!

End of an era. One of John’s great strengths was that he could always see the bigger picture. Could always see what was best for Dublin GAA. He knew how to get things done and who he could turn to to get them done - that’s what makes a great CEO. And it was never about himself - he never wanted to be in the spotlight.

The recent acquisitions of Spawell and Hollystown will prove to be a very shrewd move for Dublin GAA - he very much drove this.

He is hugely respected in other counties and readily gave of his time and advice if sought. Just a genuine GAA man who leaves big shoes to fill - size 13 I think.

One of the best. Hope he enjoys a well earned long and happy and healthy retirement.

Go raibh maith agat John…

Irreplaceable. A pleasure to work with. And a huge supporter of juvenile games.

Didn’t think it was his time. We joked about this years ago. Seems to have come around far to quickly

Excellent administrator, who will be hard to replace. The inspiration & driving force behind The Blue Wave, his contribution to Dublin GAA and the success that came from it, should see his name mentioned alongside Dublin greats.

On a personal note, I’ve had a few dealings with John over the years and always found him to be a total gentleman.

Thanks for the hard work & commitment John, wishing you many happy years in retirement.:clap::clap::clap:

Has given fantastic service to Dublin GAA over the last 30 or so years. Will be as missed as much as some of the top players who have retired in recent years. It wasn’t all administrative work though, he was quite content to stick on the tracksuit and patrol the sideline as part of the Whitehall management team too.

Go raibh míle maith agat John!

Surely a glittering Political career awaits? He’s surely not done wit professional life. The key man in Dublin’s recent success. Put all the building blocks in place. A man of vision. A huge loss

Would he run for President, to keep Bertie and Enoch Burke out?? Or maybe the Late Late, if he identified as Jane instead of John?
