Unbelievable result coming out of Rally Finland this morning. Probably the best World Rally Championship event out there. It has just been won by Dungannon’s Kris Meeke and Killarney’s Paul Nagle. To make it an even bigger day, Kilkenny’s Craig Breen has finished 3rd on only his 4th ever works drive. Both lads drive for the Citroën factory team.
WHAT A DAY!
Good end to a bad week for Irish rallying.
The Circuit of Ireland news I presume?
Really disappointed that Bobby has had to pull the plug on it. Couldn’t travel up this year and loved watching the live streaming. Fingers crossed it will come back better than ever (as a WRC round, that would be something) in 2018
More great news for Irish motorsport as the Citroën World Rally team will consist of Kris Meeke (Tyrone) and Craig Breen (Kilkenny) as well as the obligatory French bloke for the next two years in the World Rally Championship.
Pity they don’t get to race on Irish roads. Breen mustn’t have been able to hurl at all …
When the WRC was held in Donegal some years back, I remember someone saying that holding the WRC in Donegal was akin to holding the World Shooting Championships in Fallujah.
@Dub09 funny you should mention hurling as his 1st cousin is Waterford senior goalkeeper Stephen O’Keeffe but Craig isn’t a big fan of the small ball. He is 100% focused on his career and he has done so well to come back from his huge accident in Italy 4 years ago when his co-driver Gareth Roberts was tragically killed
@beeko you got that right, it’s a real shame that a lot of the young bucks up there choose the public road as their special stage as witnessed by the tragedies that have been suffered up there over the past few years
